Reflexive pronouns are used to assert that the subject (in the form of a person or animal) receives the action of the verb (reciprocal action) in a sentence. /Reflexive Pronoun adalah kata ganti yang digunakan untuk menyatakan bahwa subject (berupa orang atau hewan) menerima aksi dari kata kerja (verb) pada suatu kalimat.

The reflexive pronoun are :

§  Yourself

§  Himself

§  Herself

§  Themselves

1.      Reflexive pronouns are used when the subject and th object of a verb are the same./Reflexive pronoun digunakan ketika subjek dan objek dari suatu kata kerja sama.

Example:

§  The little girl fell down and hurt herself

Gadis kecil itu terjatuh dan melukai dirinya sendiri

§  He was tired of life, so he killed himself

Dia telah lelah hidup sehingga dia membunuh dirinya sendiri

2.      Reflexive pronoun are used after preposition./Reflexive pronoun digunakan setelah kata depan.

Example:

§  She looked at himself in the mirror

Dia melihat dirinya sendiri di cermin

§  He lives alone and often talks to himself

Dia hidup sendiri dan sering berbicara dengan dirinya sendiri.

3.      Reflexive pronoun are also used when we wish to make it clear that a certain person or thing is meant./Reflexive pronoun juga digunakan untuk memperjelas tentang orang atau benda yang dimaksud.

Example:

§  She cooked the dinner herself (No servant)

Dia memasak makan malam sendiri (Tak ada pembantu)

§  I mended the wireless myself (Nobody help me)

Saya memperbaiki nirkabel ini sendiri (Tak ada yang menolong)
